The Fellas,
was founded in 1991 by brothers Robert and Brandon Renteria because
of their love of music. With the formation of The Fellas, the
Renteria brothers had full freedom to do their music, their way as a
break off of Rudy and The Cruisers amongst many other groups
throughout the years. The Fellas have had the honor of having many
talented musicians sit in and play with them. Today, The Fellas
are a three piece band consisting of Robert Renteria, band leader,
bassist, arranger, lead and background vocals and soundman, Brandon
Renteria on drums, lead and background vocals, Ernie Romero on
guitar, lead and background vocals and at times there are guest
musicians.
In reflecting
over The Fellas past history, there were a great number of
musicians who helped in the formative years. Following is a list of
those musicians involved:
Art Chavez,
Ray Sauceda, Ray Belnas, Mike Diaz, Robert Payne, Jerome Dawson, Abe
Vasquez. Jerry Rojas, Ron Hernandez, Tony Martinez, Nasario
Gutierrez, Noel Catura, Sal Bravo, Ruben Hurtado, Calixto Manriquez,
Don Galvan, Vince Lopez, Ray Espinosa, Ernie Romero, Danny Grijalva,
Trino Ramirez, Art Trujillo. Rick Vasquez, Max Cabello and Elmer.
The Fellas
would like to thank all the musicians on this list for their
combined talented contributions.
Throughout
the years, The Fellas band has been going strong.
We’ve met so
many wonderful people in our time. With more to come, Robert and
Brandon Renteria, Ernie Romero, and the late Art Chavez are the
original backbone of The Fellas unique sound and are all
accomplished musicians who have opened up and played for top acts in
California for decades.
The Fellas
legacy is dedicated to their original keyboardist / saxophone player
/ background vocalist, Art Chavez. We want to especially dedicate
our love and respect to our bro for we miss and love you and The
Chavez family.
And the
utmost love, respect and guidance to our late father John P.
Renteria, our “Pops” for your love and guidance towards our music
legacy. You live on through our music and we thank you… We love
you Pops.
